We once designed our homes according to color schemes and how to accent them. We concentrated a lot on floor plans and how best to access our appliances. Technology is changing that. New trends in technology for 2017 are revamping how we design our living spaces. The focus is now increasing on how we can make our lives more efficient. Here’s a look at how technology is impacting our future homes.

Technology is utterly amazing most of us, and it is affecting almost everyone’s life. We have gained the ability to communicate and retrieve information in thousands of ways. This ability is possible in the smallest of devices, and new and improved methods are on the brink of discovery. It is exciting to watch as these new tech trends emerge and how they change how we handle our everyday lives. These are the new technology trends that will impact our homes in 2017.

Virtual and Augmented Reality

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are two tech trends that will soon be helping you make better decisions. They are going to be playing a big part in how we design the interior of our homes and perform our online shopping. These two amazing tech tools will help you choose large ticket items online and then see how they will actually fit into your home. This visual image will be possible before you commit to the purchase.

Furniture companies are going to be implementing more AR apps. These apps will act like a personalized catalog. You will have the ability to use your camera and scan the room you want the furniture piece for. Through your camera and this app, you will then be able to actually see how the furniture will fit into your home. AR and VR will help you better imagine by actually seeing newly designed spaces.

Physical and Digital Realities

The smartphone has been slowly adding technology into our day-to-day lives. You’ve probably noticed you can’t go anywhere without seeing someone take out their phone to perform some type of action. These phones give us access to infinite information in the real world. We can already perform a site-to-store purchase which allows us to order online and pick an item up in the physical store.  This technology will improve when more brands like Amazon start using physical products like the Dash Button and retailers like Walmart start using more digital features like product trials and store maps.

IoT (Internet of Things) impacts a broad range of how home functions such as controlling thermostats to lightbulbs. There are serious upgrades to this technology that are going to provide you increased savings in your energy costs. Consumer Technology Association reports, IoT technology has the capability of reducing energy consumption by ten percent in every household. Amazon Echo is one example of this technology with their device that sits in your home and with your voice allows you to turn lights on and off, adjust the temperature in your home, or listen to music of your choice. Google will launch their version of this device in 2017 that will give you voice-controlled search capabilities.

The Matrix, designed by AdMobilize is another tool you will see that can simplify IoT space. It will act as a central hub in your home that connects all smart devices you use. It will be able to download apps just as a smartphone does and will be able to know when you wake up in the morning so it can start brewing your coffee and hundreds of other ordinary functions you perform in your home every day. This device is ‘touchless’ technology and will deliver by you just making gestures with your hands. The Matrix considered a natural way for you to interact with technology and create a seamless, touchless smart home.

OLED TVs (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes) are not new technology. It is expected; however, that they will become more visible in everyday households in 2017. They are currently high-end televisions that have a much better picture than the standard HDTV. Predictions are these TVs will become less expensive and more mainstreamed priced allowing more consumers to enjoy this technology that blew us away four years ago.

3-D Printing

The consumer 3-D printers have been here for a while, but have been priced so high most of us are unable to own. This pricing is expected to change in 2017, and the everyday household should be able to find one at half of their current cost. With the launching of PocketMaker 3D at $149 and the 101Hero for $99, prices may fall even more. The 2017 holiday season may see these printers on many must-have lists. It will impact how we accumulate things as it won’t be necessary to buy things we can just print.

The average home may not see these incredible technology changes, but they are on the brink of becoming the ‘norm’ for all of us. These changes are coming and will alter everyone’s method of customizing and interacting with their homes. Just as can’t go out and not see almost everyone using a smartphone today, soon you will not see a home that is not a ‘smart home.’
