There are many concepts on futuristic cars that turned out to be more high-tech than standard homes in our neighborhood. This is because the popular automakers today are racing to build the best that technology has to offer when it comes to automobiles.
Even though the concept cars in this list are too expensive for most of us, that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate beauty and sleek design when we see one. The exquisite concepts from the designers of the vehicles listed here are a major leap in the automobile design industry.
Let us take a look at these 12 concepts of futuristic cars and bask in their awesomeness.
1. Lamborghini Urus – Today’s Top Futuristic Cars SUV Concept
First revealed in the Beijing Auto Show last 2012, the Urus is a futuristic cars concept SUV designed by Lamborghini. The production Urus will use the newly developed 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine, which the company claims is the only one that uses this engine. This engine can produce 584 BHP and comes with an electric motor with plug-in hybrid capability.
It is based on the same frameworks as the Bentley Bentayga and the Audi Q7. This SUV concept has a lighter design than other models in its range. It will be around 16 feet in length and 5 and a half feet in height. The top speed of this car would reach 205 MPH or 328 KMH, making it one of the fastest SUV future cars in the world.
2. eXtremes – Aerogel Infused Design by Marianna Merenmies
Designed by Marianna Merenmies, this concept vehicle combines style with space-age materials. The reason for this is because the vehicle’s material is made of Aerogel, a material used for space travel. The shell of today’s top future cars concept gives it a lightweight framework that is good for insulation. The material itself is made of 99.8% gas and can withstand severe temperatures such as that in the Siberian Tundra.
It also makes use of a carbon fiber frame as a supplement to the Aerogel which increases the stiffness in crucial areas of the vehicle. Frame torsion is minimized without the addition of weight in the overall structure.
3. Lamborghini Ferruccio – Paying Homage to Lamborghini’s Founder
The concept of the Ferruccio was created by design student Mark Hostler of Staffordshire University as an homage to the founder of Lamborghini – Ferruccio Lamborghini. The overall design of this concept car showcases the trademark flamboyant style and design language of the brand. For example, the front end of the Ferruccio was inspired by the Countach while the front and rear wings from the Miura.
The vehicle was designed to make use of a small 5.0 liter V12 engine that has two turbochargers while having direct injection technology. The direct injection would help reduce overall fuel consumption, something not seen in most concept on new cars today.
4. Jaguar C-X17 – The Crossover Concept with Liquid Aluminum Architecture
This is the first ever sports crossover concept that ever came out of Jaguar. It combines intelligent performance and attractive design that are the trademarks of the brand. One can expect high flexibility and an assured driving position with this vehicle. Aside from that, the brand new aluminum architecture of the C-X17 is intended to give its users world class quality, reliability and durability.
The mid-sized premium sports sedan is going to be powered by engines of various output and capacity ranges. These engines offer amazing performance and the newest innovations when it comes to fuel-efficient technologies among the smart car choices today.
5. Taihoo Car Concept 2046 – Inspired by the Taihu Stone of China
This car concept was designed by the student Huang Hao with its style inspired by the Taihu Stone. Among the obvious features of the Taihoo 2046 are its sphere-shaped front wheels, windows with solar cells and displays and a battery system that powers up to 500km. It also has a mesh interior that can be unfolded like a tent. This is done by pulling down the back seats which would then bring out the bed. The inside of the car can become a camping tent for young couples, the target consumer market of the designer.
The design is meant only for two passengers, which includes the driver. It offers a sexy and unique design that is not usually seen with the smart car designs that are being conceptualized nowadays.
6. Mini Superleggera – Sleek Executive Style That Has Stolen Many Hearts
The 2018 MINI Superleggera brings a fairly new design together with updated interior features compared to its predecessor. The design of the Superleggera is based on an executive style that has captured the hearts of many aspiring buyers already. Together with its long wheelbase, short overhangs and stretched bonnet, all these styles bring out the classic British roadster in this concept of futuristic cars.
The framework of the vehicle is crafted by hand and then molded together with a lightweight aluminum frame. It is packed with the latest technology and electric power beats from the heart of this vehicle. MINI is a British brand owned by BMW since 1994.
7. McLaren JetSet – Aerodynamic, Lightweight and Unique Design
This is another future cars concept from Marianna Merenmies that is lightweight, efficient and yet stylish overall. The McLaren JetSet is intended for premium clients that want a small yet fast automobile that can get them to different places in a crowded city quickly. The idea for this design is like that of the Aston Martin Cygnet, but is more advanced in nearly all aspects.
The design is made up of almost 100% lightweight carbon fiber. This includes the suspension, body, chassis, wheels and more. There are two traditional wheels at the front while the rear area uses two fins together with two small wheels to make contact with road surface. Now isn’t that amazing?
8. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG – Powerfully Sleek Car You Can Own Now
The front engine, 2-seater luxury automobile that is developed by Mercedes-AMG was the first ever car designed from scratch by AMG. It features gull-wing doors and is the successor to the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. The SLS stands for Sport Light Super and this vehicle is designed mostly by hand.
When it was first introduced, its 571 PS M159 engine was the most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever produced according to the company. The 6.2 liter engine of this vehicle was modified so much that they had to give it a separate engine code. We saw this first at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Moreover, sales on this vehicle started the following year.
9. Toyota FT-1 – Sensuous Yet Aggressive
The FT-1 was developed by Toyota’s Calty design studio and represents the future of the Toyota design when it comes to their luxury futuristic cars. As a matter of fact, the name itself stands for “Future Toyota One” and function sculpting has been at the heart of this design. It has proportions that makes it look like the classic sports cars we know of. The hood is about two-thirds its length, making the driver seem as if he is sitting atop the rear wheels.
The front view of the car gets inspiration from a Formula One vehicle, having an aggressive-looking nose. It has a sleep sweep up the hood and a glass engine cover that gives it a stunning combination of sensuous and aggressive styles.
10. Toyota U2 – Concept Car Designed for No-Nonsense Entrepreneurs
The U2 or Urban Utility concept is an original study of the compact SUV and developed at the Calty design studio. It is inspired by the trends in lifestyle for entrepreneurial, urban drivers. It made its first appearance in the public at the World Maker Faire in New York City back in 2014. The concept features robust materials and open architecture that showcases the no-nonsense style of America’s urban environment.
The smart car has compact dimensions and is dripping with practical features. We can say that the design is a combination of a spacious cargo van’s functionality and a traditional pick-up. We can usually see these features in futuristic cars.
11. Super Hatchback – Supercar and Hatchback Made to Work
This is another concept of Jamie Martin, the same UK designer who created the London Navigator and Cobra Venom V8. The Super Hatchback Concept (SHC) is a desire to combine two different worlds. Futuristic cars and hatchbacks don’t seem to get along as new cars, but the design by Martin which offers some eco-friendly technology makes it work.
The smart car is designed to compete with the likes of the Ford Focus RS and the Honda Civic Type-R and comes with two different transmission packages. To achieve high level performance and handling, the SHC had to rely on heavily reduced weight and balancing its distribution.
12. Ferrari Millenio – Among the Most Unique Future Cars Today
Did you know that there is a material still being developed which is lighter than carbon fiber? Meet buckypaper, the material being planned for use in their concept car Ferrari Millenio. This is a two-seater supercar that has no windscreen, no roof and no doors. The car would have two electric motors which can then be recharged through solar panels molded in its bodywork.
One can also expect the Millenio to have a host of LCD displays in its cockpit with a speedometer as its focal point. Although this has been designed even before the Lamborghini Aventador J, the lack of well-padded seats might be an indication that futuristic cars may choose lower weight over comfort.
